We spend our entire childhood preparing to become an adult.
We go to school and learn how to read and write.
But there are other things that are seemingly impossible to
teach, yet vitally important to living a good life.
Self-confidence is something that you just can't teach in a
classroom or even by talking to a child. The only way to teach it is through
providing children with the opportunity to experience and overcome challenges
for themselves.
Self-esteem is the same way. Often times the difference
between a respectful student with straight A's and a trouble student who's
failing is simply a self-esteem issue.
When kids don't feel good about themselves it shows in the
way they behave and the effort they put into school work.
The only way to teach that stuff is to challenge our kids.
And one of the safest and most effective ways I know to do
that is through martial arts.
The best part is that students actually have fun while being
challenged.
When they succeed, they feel good about themselves. And when
they fail, they have caring instructors who can give them positive feedback and
help them get on the right track.
As parents and educators to the kids of Flowery Branch, we need to understand just how
important these character traits really are to the well being of our
children...and our community.
People who lack self-esteem, self-discipline, perseverance,
respect for others and so forth... People who lack those qualities generally go
on to lead less than fulfilling lives.
